Get the size of each data dimension

Attempt to determine the endianness, or byte order, from a .4dfp.ifh file

Trim off the .4dfp.* file extension, if any, from a filename

Read a 4dfp image file.

filename should be the path of a 4dfp file, optionally omitting the file extension.

byte_order should be one of LittleEndian or BigEndian; or omit this argument and get_endianness() will attempt to parse the it from the .4dfp.ifh file.
